India: Three people have died after their throats were slit by kite glass-coated strings

Two children and a man have died in the Indian capital after their throats were slit by glass-covered strings used for flying kites during Independence Day celebrations.
Saanchi Goyal, 3, and Harry, 4, were looking out through the sunroof of their cars in different parts of Delhi when sharp strings slit their throats.
Zafar Khan, 22, died in the same manner when he was riding his motorbike.

Flying kites is popular in India, especially during festivals and celebrations. The Delhi government has now banned the sale and production of sharpened kite strings in the capital city, BBC and the Express reports.

The Delhi High Court last week directed the city government to raise awareness of the dangers of the strings, saying there had been a raft of deaths in recent years in Delhi and two neighbouring states.

Some states have already banned such strings following accidents.
